Interlink Typeface
The idea for this font came while exploring a bold and distinctive typeface for a bike company Devoir. This typeface exists solely in capital letters (1) and is intended primarily for display purposes. The design was inspired by bike chains (2), where links connect to form circular shapes that became the core element. Each letter was constructed from circles interconnected by lines, like chainlinks. Some letters have slanted lines (1), while others have curves (3), similar to a chain folding in motion. The Shimano quick link remover (4) inspired the connections between letters, giving the typeface a sense of stability and flow. Molecules such as H₂O (5) also influenced how the circles connect and the thickness of those connections. Certain letters incorporate individual chainlinks (6) to highlight the origins and inspiration of the font (7). The wheel (8) was also a source of inspiration (because it’s very cool). Its round form reflects the circles used throughout the font and connects the design to bicycles. Overall, this font is an experimental exploration of interconnection, translating physical forms into a visual system that combines movement, strength, and structure in a simple and clear way.
